When the cat’s away the mice will play

As the story goes, when the cat’s away, the mice would play, and this is exactly what took place when Orlando Sergeant stole a quantity of items from his workplace on March 23, 2007.

Sergeant, 21, an employee at Stangro Supermarket in Kingstown was sentenced to four years imprisonment on Monday at the Serious Offences Court after pleading guilty to stealing two laptop computers valued at $20,000 and $750 in cash. The Ottley Hall resident was jointly charged with Rorie Hamlett, 18 also of Ottley Hall, who was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for his involvement.{{more}}

The business place had already closed and Sergeant returned later that night with his accomplice Hamlett and broke into the building.

On resumption of business the next day, the computers and cash were discovered missing. The matter was reported to the police and certain information led to the arrest of both men. They admitted stealing the items and were arrested and charged. The items were recovered at Hamlett’s residence along with $204 worth of coins.
