Members of the local Coast Guard Service arrested the three Trinidadians – Lloyd Quamina, Arnold Joseph and Dominique Bengochea – after a 28-foot Trinidadian pirogue, equipped with two 200 HP Yahama engines, was intercepted at Lowmans Bay last week Thursday. Police said 296 pounds of marijuana were seized in the operation.

When the Trinidadians appeared before the Serious Offences Court last Friday, Quamina and Joseph pleaded guilty. The matter was then adjourned for hearing on Monday and when they reappeared in court Bengochea maintained his innocence.

Chief Magistrate Simone Churaman further adjourned the hearing after the prosecutor, Inspector Adolphus Delpesche, said police were awaiting information from Trinidad to ascertain whether they had previous convictions or were wanted by authorities.

The three accused are being represented by lawyer Samantha Robertson.
