Owia police officer commended for outstanding performance
A Police Officer attached to the Owia Police Station was recognized for his outstanding performance at the Georgetown Magistrateâs Court.
When PC 973 Verbert King was quizzed by prosecutor Delroy Tittle after giving evidence in a matter, he admitted that he had been a member of the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) for only one year, one month and 12 days. King, who is in his 20s, also mentioned that this was his first time giving evidence and he had never had formal training at the Police Training School.
âYou gave excellent evidence,â Tittle complimented King.
King, who had worked at the Georgetown Police Station for seven months before he was transferred to Owia, had just given evidence in a matter in which Marlene Thomas and Charmaine Williams, both of Owia, were before the court.
The incident stemmed from a land boundary dispute on December 20, 2017, in which Williams admitted to throwing a glass bottle, which struck Thomas on the back of her neck, while she was on Thomasâs premises, which resulted in Thomas seeking medical attention.
Williams was found guilty of assault, causing bodily harm, which the magistrate said was unprovoked, as there was no evidence of self-defense. She was therefore charged $450. She paid $250 forthwith, with the balance to be paid in one month. In default, Williams will face four months imprisonment.
Magistrate Bertie Pompey, who presided over the matter at the Georgetown Magistrateâs Court on February 12, also commended King.
âLet me join with Sergeant Tittle and commend you for your well put together evidence. You are on the right road, so keep it like that. Good job, officer,â said Pompey.(GHJ)
