Salvation Army exceeds 2017 ‘Kettle Appeal’ target

The commanding officer of the Salvation Army in St Vincent and the Grenadines has dubbed 2017 a blessed year as the organization’s annual ‘Christmas Kettle Appeal’ surpassed its original target.

Major Pierre Antoine, in an interview with SEARCHLIGHT yesterday, spoke of the success of the “Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Appeal,” which had been officially launched on November 10, 2017.

“Our target was $110,000, and we made, so far, $110,500.50. Can you imagine? 2017 was a blessed year for the ‘Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Appeal,” the Major concluded.

Antoine says that the money received will go towards initiatives of the Salvation Army, including its feeding programme, which has been going on for more than 60 years, wherein the Army “gives people a hot meal and we give dry food, but not only for Christmas; we give hampers to institutions.” He further stated that the money goes towards the upkeep of the Salvation Army children’s home.

Not forgetting to thank all those who participated in the kettle appeal, the commanding officer stated, “We just want to express thanks to the public, to different agencies like the business places…and every group, every institution, that came on board to make sure the Salvation Army achieved the target.”(KR)
