Mothers’ Day Message from Minister Rev Eleanaor Davis

Women Ministries and Discipleship Director

New Testament Church of God, St Vincent and the Grenadines and St Lucia

I greet all Mothers and Mothers-to-be, in the Most Precious and Holy Name of Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord. Blessings to you, and to all those who fulfil or play the important role of Mothers in our homes, our schools, our workplaces, or in societies.{{more}}

I count it a great honour and a privilege to be able to address you on this occasion on the behalf of the Women of the New Testament Church of God in St Vincent and the Grenadines and St.Lucia.

This is important especially since I am also a mother and am acquainted with the joys and sorrows, pleasures, pains and heartaches of motherhood.

Motherhood is a serious responsibility not to be taken lightly, or entered into carelessly or rashly. Yet too many of our young ladies and even children are rushed into this noble calling without preparation and guidance. The reality is, motherhood is not for the unprepared, coward or novice. It is for those with strength, courage and stamina. However, strength, courage and stamina are not enough to make a good mother although they are important ingredients. Value is also an important element of good motherhood. There needs to be the ability to set godly examples.

There is a call for Godly mothers today that will stand in the gap for the children of our land. There is a desperate need for mothers like Susanna, the mother of John and Charles Wesley, who burn the “mid-night oil” to nurture her children and bring them up in the fear of the Lord. Susanna Wesley’s writing to her absent husband one day was:

I am a woman, but I am also the mistress of a large family. And though the superior charge of the souls contained in it lies upon you, yet in your long absence I cannot but look upon every soul you leave under my charge as a talent committed to me under a trust. I am not a man or a minister, yet as a mother and a mistress I felt I ought to do more than I had yet done. I resolved to begin with my own children; in whom I observe the following method: I take such a proportion of time as I can spare every night to discourse with each child apart. On Monday I talk with Molly, on Tuesday with Hetty, Wednesday with Nancy, Thursday with Jacky, Friday with Patty, Saturday with Charles.

Susanna Wesley’s legacy lives on today.

Being a fulltime mother is one of the highest professions ever. The payment is “Pure Love”. As a consequence, the duties and responsibilities should be performed with distinction. Proverbs 22:6 “train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it”. This is responsibility of mothers in a day when so many of our fathers are absent.

In an era when the moral of our society is decaying, depicted by the rising level of teenage pregnancy, delinquent children, murders, and numerous other social ills. I call upon mothers, both in and outside the church, to take their motherhood seriously. It is a good time for the mothers of our churches to join together to fight against the social ills that are confronting our children. It is high time that mothers rise up and rescue our children from the clutches of drugs, crime and violence, and to bring them to a place of morality and spiritual soundness. In so doing we will have a godly environment and a better nation.

A Mother’s love is a fuel that enables a normal human being to do the impossible.

May God richly bless the nation of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Happy Mothers’ Day!
