Frederick’s love for our nation’s children

“All for the love of our nation’s children” is Ms. Angella Frederick’s motto. Commonly referred to as Miss Angie, this pioneer has served faithfully in the Early Childhood Education Sector for over 25 years.{{more}} Her journey began in the mid-eighties, when she received training at the Canadian Save the Children Fund, Child Welfare Training Centre, in Child Care and Development here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. She also completed courses in Child Psychology and Child Abuse from the SVG Save the Children Fund, the Child Development Training Centre presently known as VINSAVE. She received further training on Infant and Young Child Feeding Counseling from the Ministry of Health as well as Basic Occupational Therapy Skills from the Caribbean Marian Care.

Ms. Angie worked briefly at the Playpen Daycare before she moved on to VINSAVE Day Care and Pre-School. She spent eighteen years at this institution, working her way from teacher to head supervisor. She is presently the supervisor at the SVGTU Hill Top Pre-School. Her dedication and competence have caused her to be selected to serve for 12 years as President of the National Association for Early Childhood Education. She has, therefore, voluntarily facilitated several workshops for the Ministry of Education and has been instrumental in planning Child Month activities.

When asked why she has spent so many years in this field of work, Ms. Frederick declared: “Despite the challenges I face, I have a genuine love for children. I want to see them excel.” Mrs. Frederick has impacted on the lives of many young children who now form part of the Civil Service, while others have accessed higher education and are working abroad.

“Ms. Angie is a heroine indeed because she is a woman of distinguished ability and is admired for her noble qualities in helping to shape the minds and lives of present and future leaders,” states Sheena, her daughter.
