Andrea Gaymes

– “The Singing Psychologist”

To Andrea Gaymes for graduating with a Master of Science in Counselling Psychology with Distinction from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus. Andrea is well known in St Vincent and the Grenadines as an accomplished vocalist. The Vincentian public has seen this young lady grow on stage since the age of twelve, performing at many national events. She also was the recipient of a Berklee College of Music Scholarship in 2008 where she studied Music Performance. Andrea went right into her Postgraduate program after completing her Bachelor of Science in Psychology, with a minor in Sociology with Honours from the University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus in 2011. {{more}}

Andrea, now 24 years old, plans to pursue a Doctoral program in the near future and wishes to advance her skills in psychometric testing. There is a need for improvement/advancement in the mental health services in the Caribbean. Therefore, she plans to not only serve her country, but also to serve different islands in the Caribbean, reaching out to one client at a time. Andrea especially wants to work with children and adolescents in our region. Hence, the way she touched lives through her voice, she wishes to do the same through her profession.

Andrea would like to thank God for giving her the strength to accomplish her life goals; her family, godparents and friends who have contributed to her journey and continue to motivate her in her pursuits. These include: (parents) Claudette Howard-Peters and Daniel Gaymes, Mrs Pamela Bonadie, Rev Carlita Dennie and family, Ruth Armstrong, the St Joseph’s Sisters of Cluny and the Catholic community, members of the New Kingstown Chorale, Dr Timothy Providence, Ms Calma Balcombe, Mrs La Ferne Cato, Rhonda Stanley, Elizabeth and Anne Cummins, Sister Ivy Pacheco, Jocelyn Joseph, members of the Faith Temple church, teachers who taught her at St Mary’s R.C, St Joseph’s Convent Kingstown and St Vincent Community College. Also, to the many others who have supported, encouraged and prayed.

Andrea would like to encourage young persons to continue to persevere and reach for their goals. Also let their purpose in life be to make a positive contribution to their society.
