May the spirit and message of Christmas motivate us to work together
2025 Christmas Message from the SVG Christian Council
CHRISTMAS CAROLS help to create a special feeling and an atmosphere of goodwill, giving, loving, caring and sharing. It is such a wonderful spirit that we begin to hear Christmas carols being played on radio in September. In the Western Church’s calendar, Christmas begins on 25th December and ends on the feast of the Epiphany, 6th January; while in the Eastern Church, Christmas begins on the 6th January and ends on 2nd February, the feast of the Presentation of Christ in the Temple, which is the Epiphany in the Eastern Church.
In the Church there is a period of preparation before we celebrate Christmas, and it is called Advent, in which we prepare for the coming of Christ. We believe that “God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life”. (John 3:16.)
This is such an important act of God that requires our deep attention. To ponder, to reflect on, to embrace, acknowledge and to respond to in worship, prayer and a life committed to the love and service of God, all human beings and creation.
As we celebrate this Christmas, as we share gifts and meals, as families, friends and neighbours gather together, may we consider what each one of us can do in our homes, villages, lands, communities, schools, workplaces, offices, occupations, churches, and organisations to spread this special feeling and atmosphere of goodwill, giving, loving, caring and sharing; so that as a nation we may all have a more meaningful existence and live together in harmony.
General elections have come and gone. May the spirit and message of Christmas motivate us to work together as a people and nation.
“ She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21).
It is important for us to help ourselves and others to identify where we are going wrong or have gone wrong and seek to find new avenues and ways to turn to a new path which will redound to the good and betterment of all.
May we seek not to pull down and destroy; instead let us focus on encouraging renewal, and support each other in building a better future.
Let us join and sing: 1. Joy to the world!
the Lord is come; Let earth receive her King; Let every heart prepare him room, And heaven and nature sing, And heaven and nature sing, And heaven, and heaven, and nature sing.
2. Joy to the world! the Saviour reigns; Let men their songs employ; While fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains Repeat the sounding joy, Repeat the sounding joy, Repeat, repeat the sounding joy.
3. No more let sins and sorrows grow, Nor thorns infest the ground; He comes to make His blessings flow Far as the curse is found, Far as the curse is found, Far as, far as, the curse is found.
4. He rules the world with truth and grace, And makes the nations prove The glories of His righteousness, And wonders of His love, And wonders of His love, And wonders, wonders, of His love.
The St.Vincent and the Grenadines Christian Council takes this opportunity to wish you all a Blessed Christmas and A Happy NewYear.
