Giving thanks to God for His blessings
Christmas Message from Dr. The Honourable Godwin Friday, Prime Minister of St.Vincent and the Grenadines
AT THIS HOLY season of Christmas, we pause to give thanks to God for His blessings and to reflect on the relationships that truly matter: family, friends, and community. It is a time for us, as Vincentians, to celebrate the birth of Jesus with our families, each in our own way, while remaining deeply rooted in our traditions and culture.
From the cherished tradition of Nine Mornings, to the lighting of our homes, businesses, and the Botanical Gardens, to going from house to house enjoying ham, ginger beer, and sorrel shared by neighbours and strangers alike, these moments remind us of the warmth and generosity of our people and the joy that togetherness brings.
We have just come through a long election campaign. By their competitive nature, elections tend to pull us apart. Christmas, however, calls us to come together again as one people. It is my hope that this Christmas feels lighter and brighter for everyone.
Your government remains focused on building a strong economy that works for all, meeting our needs and delivering jobs and prosperity.
I know the pressures many families face because of the cost-of-living crisis. That is why, in the brief time we have been in office, we have taken meaningful steps to bring relief.
We introduced a VAT-Free Day on Friday, December 19, giving consumers across the country the opportunity to purchase
essential household goods, electronics, furniture, and appliances to help you enjoy Christmas and the NewYear.
As for me, I walked the streets of Kingstown and shopped alongside many of you. I was deeply moved by the smiles, the warmth, and the spirit of togetherness. These moments reinforce our commitment to improving lives and restoring hope.
We also made a commitment to those affected by the vaccine mandate, and we have begun the process of reinstatement. Many have already returned to their jobs, and this work continues as we honour our promises.
As we look ahead to 2026, our government will continue to serve with purpose and care. Let us move forward together, anchored by faith and united in our commitment to building a safer, fairer, and more prosperous nation.
On behalf of my family and my government, I wish you a peaceful Christmas and a hopeful and prosperous NewYear.
May God bless us all.
