Caribbean Air Travel Disrupted Following US Military Strike on Venezuela
A US military strike on Venezuela early Saturday morning, Saturday, January, 3 2026 has led to widespread flight disruptions between the US and several Caribbean Territories and States, including St Vincent and the Grenadines. As a result, the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Authority issued the following notice to its members:
Dear Members,
The Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) wishes to advise members of ongoing flight cancellations and disruptions affecting the region, arising from the current situation in Venezuela and related airspace restrictions. Based on information received to date, the following updates apply has suspended flights to Curaçao, Aruba, and Sint Maarten due to the closure of airspace around Curaçao. U.S.-based flights to the ABC Islands have been cancelled today. JetBlue (B6) flight from JFK to Port of Spain (POS) was diverted and subsequently returned to JFK. JetBlue (B6) and Delta (DL) flights to BGI, SLU, SVD, and GND scheduled for today have been cancelled. American Airlines (AA) flight departing POS at 6:00 a.m. has been delayed. JetBlue has confirmed cancellation of operations to the Southern Caribbean and Guyana. Delta Air Lines has confirmed cancellations. Conviasa flights have also been cancelled. Members are advised that Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) is NOT closed at this time and remains open and operational. The BHTA is actively monitoring the situation and will continue to share updates with the membership as more information becomes available.
