Ah Deputy Essential
Does anybody in Go-venom-mint notice how dark de streets of Kingstown and surroundings are at nights. De street lights remind me of de 1950’s when yuh went to de Grenadines or other towns on de mainland, when de streets were lit by kerosene lanterns in a glass-box placed on top a 4×4 inch wooden post at de street corners. Will one ah de parties seeking power promise to light up de place, SVG is in darkness!
Grampa insist he must enter-fear wid my trend of thoughts, and get me to share his personal vision as de elect-shun camp-pain blazing away on fire. He still trying to figure out, how ah party in power has bin in office 25 years, wid de same captain, who incidentally is now 79 years young. Wid all fairness, he has had two different chief mates during his tenure, dey have both moved on. He is now well into over and extra time, widout ah selected deputy. Foh 25 years he has been chief, cook and bottle-washer. Grampa says his problem is greed! selfishness and fear dat someone better is about to tek his place.
What Grampa likes about de captain who claims he his 5 Star General going on six, is his scholarship. His love foh Spiritual Worship and Bible quotations: “ Morning by morning new Mercies I seek, all dat I’ve asked thy hand has provided…..Great is thy Faithfulness.”
Grampa says he is like an man playing games hoping foh coverage hiding wid pure people religion, where dey’s plenty singing, and dancing and drumming. But we must warn de captain, tell him: “ God will not be mocked!” He must clean up de mess dat he is about to leave behind.
“Pick ah Chief-mate. Today, maybe tonight or tomorrow his pull-it-tek-ill soul will need to have answers!”
Now Grampa is concerned wid smooth transition. He speaks about people who live all dey life in turmoil and confusion, and when dey die, hell break loose. Last year when he turned three score and ten. He immediately called his children and read his Last Will and Testimony to dem.
Frightened and worried dey told him he sound like he planning to leave dem. “No!” Grampa said, but he is now bothered wid Psalm 90:10, dat states, “The days of our years are threescore years and ten (70 years); AND if by reason of strength they be fourscore (80)years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; FOR IT IS SOON CUT OFF, AND WE FLY AWAY”. In other words our 79 year ole captain must be reminded dey’s ah saying : “ Captain out all man out!” And if he still has any genuine love foh his ship and his crew, he should pick ah deputy leader. His nex Bible verse is : “ What shall it profit ah captain, if his ship sinks, and he is de only survivor”.
Remember de Kaiso dat says: Ah deputy essential. And wid dat is gone ah gone again.
One Love Bassy
