Ah one-over Cricket Match!
Bassy - Love Vine

Ah one-over Cricket Match!

HEY! HEY! Vincy Festival Lovers! Let’s keep de Festivals rolling. VincyMas 2025 officially closed on Tuesday, July 8, and by July 15, one week later, de surprise launch of ah “Cricket Festival!” De Headlines of de Event reads: “ Emancipation Anniversary Celebrations in SVG will take de form of ah Cricket Festival by de Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Development and Culture” headed by Minister Callous James, ULP Representative for North Leeward. But wait nah? Isn’t dat de same Ministry dat just augur-noise VincyMas, dat dey dem-self’ deemed an overwhelming success! And interestingly how could we have ah Nah-shun-all Sporting Event, widout de Ministry of Sports being ah part of de Augur-noisers. Imagine de local Cricket Association is no way dey. Lie-Za feels all dis confusion coudah bin avoided had de organ-eyes-as of de Cricket Festival made-sure and secured President Kiss-Sure’s blessing from Cricket West Indies (CWI). But nobody rains on Wrolf Parade.

All in all, things could ah bin made much easier wid ah simple conver-say-shun, ah phone call maybe between de two leaders, Dr Gone-Soft, de Pry-mini-star of SVG, de Master Mine, Heart and Sole routing foh de Cricket Festival; and on de other side is Dr Shah-low de President of CWI, and candidate of de NDP for North Leeward. Regardless of dey politics de Mission of both men should be “ Fuss’n’Fore Most: ” Ley we Mek West Indies Cricket Better.” But dis Cricket Festival I-dare has deteriorated to a low Pull-it-tek-all Football . All to do wid ah “One Man self image and politics.”

Win or Lose! We, as ah Carry-Beyond people, will die foh we WI Cricketers. We have had ah terrible White Wash licking from de Aussies in de recently concluded 3-Test series at home. But ah properly organized Cricket Festival could help to restore and re-energize de spirit of West Indies cricket lovers, as well as to put on display some ah we up and coming (potentially) great world class players- ah refer specially to de crop of bowlers e.g. de Josephs, Seales, our own Murray Village born, Vice captain, Romel Warrican (Fred Trimmingham’s nephew) to name ah few. Anything to help our poor young cricketers become well paid professionals and millionaires.

Apart from Cricket lovers of SVG longing foh some good cricket, we need ah new thing to enhance de Emancipay-shun Activities, but dat can happen only if de Whirl Boss wid his own pull-it-tek-all ah- gender at stake, meets wid Kiss-sure Shah-Low, Whirl Boss nemisses “de Lickle Black Boy” who is fearless and not short of biting rebuttal foh de man whom he has already described as ah Clown. To say dat dey both got ah lot ah Pull-it-tek-all Mad, and Bad Blood in store foh each other!!

Lie-Za says she not happy wid de way de Pry-minister and Dr. Kiss-Sure Shah-Low keep going at each other. She suggests dey settle it on de Cricket Field in ah one wicket show-down. Dey will be two six member teams, each comprised of current ULP and NDP representatives in Par-liar-mint. Ah one over ah side game. Ten balls an over, each batsman will bat out his ten balls. All balls must be bowled over head, no underhand bowling. No runners, no longer dan one minute rest between balls bowled. At de end of de Cricket match, dey will be ah dance off between de Pry-mini-star and Dr Friday. Ten minutes of non-stop dancing, wid ah ten second rest after five minutes dancing.

SEE YUH IN HEAVEN DEE-DAH

Dis week, ah want to recognize another stalwart in de village who has gone to meet her Jesus. My villager and peer Sybil “Dee-dah” Trimmingham. She is one of seven siblings. She’s de sister of de famous nah-shun-all sportsman Fred, now deceased. She was petit, ah miniature tyrant. She and Fred gave de mom, Miss Francis, no ends ah stress. Nobody uses to mess wid Dee-dah and Fred. When one say kill, de other say bury. Unfortunately, she didn’t finish Primary School sorry, couldn’t finish Primary School. her single parent mom, Miss Francis, just couldn’t afford it, too Poor, oops! Pure, but yuh couldn’t ask foh ah more honest, faithful hard working family. Dee-dah had to settle foh de humblest of jobs, a labourer wid ah tray in de road gangs. Simple chores, but part of de road construction network of SVG. She was blessed wid seven decent and respectful children, ah few of dem are good sportsmen and women. Midway in life she got saved and was baptized ah Spiritual Baptist Christian . We couldn’t ask foh ah more Reformed, Peaceful and Faithful Convert. Giving and receiving respect from de community up to her very end at four score and seven. May Dee-Dah rest in Peace. And wid dat is gone ah gone again.

One Love Bassy
