When Cain killed Abel

Ah believe dat ah touch dis topic already, if not word foh word but maybe de gist ah de story itself, because It’s an awakening foh me every time there is ah murder here or anywhere in our region, ah would go to de fourth chapter ah Genesis and read over de evidence, de verdict and de penalty dat God did impose foh de first recorded murder, when Cane kill Abel!{{more}}

Cain as we know worked de soil, he planted things like yam, potato, erbs and bananas. De earth was rich and no doubt his harvest was bountiful; even as far back as dem days, wukers had to give back an offering to de Lord, and it had to be de first and best portion of yuh harvest: yuh best fish if yuh fishing, yuh best fruit if yuh fruiting, yuh best goat if yuh goating and so on, ah wonder what pull-ah-trick-hans gave, maybe dey best trick or dey biggest lie. But Cain was greedy, and what ever portion Cain gave the Lord from his garden as an offering, God tek one look at it, choops his teeth and walk-way; ah believe is de same way God does choops He teeth when He look at de set ah small change and one dollar collection dat some ah we does put in de offering plate when we go Church.

On de other hand, Cain’s brother Abel was in de sheep business, and he didn’t think it was too much to offer back to God de cream ah his flock; de Lord was pleased, and He accepted Abel’s offering. Well dat bun Cain to his heart, so out ah jealousy, spite, hate and ignorance, he pick ah fight wid his brother Abel, and murdered him, Cain killed Abel!

But de story didn’t end dey. God was really mad wid Cain and he took ah tun pon Cain and told him off : “Listen, your brother’s blood cries to me from de ground. Now you are under ah curse and driven from de ground which opened its mouth to receive your brothers blood from your hand.” Ah couple things ah notice dat God did or didn’t do, one is interesting dat de Lord did not impose de death penalty on Cain, and two, He placed ah curse on Cain as well as de land, de country. Further on in de Bible we read dat Cain’s great-grand-son was also ah murderer, ah believe dat is Cain genes dat making havoc in de world today.

IS OUR BLESSED COUNTRY CURSED?

One ah de things dat bothers me though, is if there is now ah curse on our land.

When ah study how our young men and women settle conflicts now-ah-days, is knife, cutlass or guns and who ain’t get chop down getting shoot-up over simple nothing. Ah not playing most righteous but something not right in our land. My God fearing soul tells me dat de blood ah dem recent murdered victims here and in de region as well, dey crying to de Lord from de ground. And ah not getting presumptuous, but look at Jamaica, de country dat got de highest murder rate per capita, what ever dat means, it’s too much, too much Blood crying to de Lord from de ground.

So what meks me think dat ah curse could be pon de land? Ley we go to de land itself and start wid Sugar Cane dat was wid us up to twenty or so years ago, we were producing sugar, NDP ordered surgery on de sugar factory, de operation was successful but de patient died. Second in line is Coconut, we had de largest single coconut field in de world, we also had two oil factories, and den all fall down, coconut died, actually it was killed so dat Soy and Corn from de USA could live. Arrowroot made de rounds, it was one time de best product to mek computer paper, but at dat time Our-root was suffering from ah strange, terminal disease called laziness, nobody to wuk de lands. Right now it still breathing, but not out ah de intensive care unit yet.

What can we say about Bananas, from an annual income of over ah hundred million dollars we down to twenty million dollars ah year. When is not Storm or Hurricane blowing down the fields, is diseases, de Mooko. And if we not careful, dat Mooko disease could very be de last nail in de coffin, and what is disturbing, is de information or lack thereof about dis Mooko, nobody is saying how it got here, deceived all, down to our best farmers and spread like wild fire.

One theory is dat it could have been brought here ah few years ago, when we were trading wid de Grenada farmers/traffickers who came up, went into our fields and harvested de crops. De next theory is dat it could also have originated in de environment way de tissue culture plants were developed. Dis is evident in de case ah Minister Gomry Daniel’s entire field of tissue plants. Whatever de cause, we need to know de truth, to avoid ah recurrence and hopefully reverse what looks lkke ah curse in de making to me.

But of course Lie-Za must get de last word. She wants to know where is de ULP master plan foh Bananas dat dey promised, got to be ah Debt Benefit Plan dey have, all dey doing is paying out benefits to de farmers, money spending from all source and less Bananas produced, if dat is not ah curse, den cuss she. She wants to know how come de Minister foh Bananas, an Agriculturalist by profession and one of de most knowledgeable farmer in de business, after Hugh Stewart and Godwin Daniel; he was also de certifying office wid de Banana Association. Not even Gomry was able to spot Mooko in his own field. Lie-Za say Gomry reminds she of Monty Roberts, who dey claim uses to speed thru his North Windward Constituency dat people couldn’t catch-up wid him, dey nicknamed him “Desert Storm”! Gomry speeding thru his field at Waterloo so fast, he missed seeing Mooko in his field, she nickname him: Gom Prix!

And wid dat ah gone again.

One Love Bassy.
