Thirteen to contest the SVG Toastmasters’ Area Speech Contest

Thirteen contestants will participate in this year’s Toastmasters Area Speech Contest that will be held at the Conference Room of the Girl Guides Headquarters on Saturday, February 1 from 4 to 6 pm.

The speech contest, held annually, will have three categories: the International Speech Contest, the Evaluation Speech Contest and the Tabletopics Speech Contest.

Contestants in the International Speech Contest will speak on a topic of their choice for 5-7 minutes while contestants in the Evaluation Speech Contest will provide feedback on a test speech for 2-3 minutes. The Tabletopics category will challenge contestants to speak fluently for 1-2 minutes when given an impromptu scenario.

In the International Speech Contest, contestants include Shernell Hadaway from the Achievers Toastmasters Club, Arlette Miller and Xelony Daize from the Creative Thinkers Toastmasters Club, Shelley-Ann Toney from the FLOW SVG Toastmasters Club and Alicia Kirby and Le’anna Sutherland from the Imperial Champions Toastmasters Club.

In the Evaluation Speech Contest, contestants include Arlette Miller from the Creative Thinkers Toastmasters Club, Kimisha Horne from the FLOW SVG Toastmasters Club and Natalie Cummings from the Imperial Champions Toastmasters Club.

In the Tabletopics Speech Contest, contestants include Ophelia Phillips from the Achievers Toastmasters Club, Shaquille Lewis and Denecia Gaymes from the Creative Thinkers Toastmasters Club, Nikala Williams from the FLOW SVG Toastmasters Club and Rayana Patrick and Natalie Cummings from the Imperial Champions Toastmasters Club.

This year’s Contest Chairperson is Toastmaster Jacqueline English-Jacobs. The winners of this year’s International and Tabletopics Contests will advance to the Division Speech Contest in Barbados in April 2020.

Vincentian Toastmaster, Anika Stapleton, in 2009, after winning the Area level Contest advanced to the District Contest in Jamaica and after placing first, represented St Vincent and the Grenadines and the entire Caribbean in the Toastmasters International Worldwide International Speech Contest in Connecticut, U.S.A.
